“We used to imagine.

We used to believe.

Children are the dreamers, the teachers.

They remind us of what we sometimes forget.

When we’re with them, we are reminded that we still can.”-BrittnyLee

Working with one of my clients, we got into a serious conversation about teddy bears. He proceeded to get his teddy bear to show me after I showed him pictures of mine. This little boy is the reserved type so it was a magical moment for me to hear him ask me if he could introduce me to his bear. He ran upstairs excitedly bringing his teddy down and plopping

the heavy bear on the table. I asked the child the bear’s name because naturally all my teddies have names. That’s totally acceptable for someone my age ( rolls eyes ) . His response was “I don’t know.” It was so funny. Besides the slight humor, I was thoroughly impressed by this little boy. He wanted to open up, to find similarity with me, a new worker he’s adjusting to. When I left the home that day, I cried. It’s been a rough few months at work with adjusting hours and scheduling. It wasn’t a sad cry. I was happy to know I was helping him open up and that he was willing to give me a chance.

Children are more resilient than given credit for.

We can learn a lot from children . I’m grateful that I have the opportunity, working with them, to get to.
