Deep in the woods,
the Blue Jays rush to sing their tunes.
They’ve already found
the ground they hold onto.

I’m still floating,
drifting along with you,
my satellite,
guiding me in getting lost,
in the dismounting of that time horse,
escaping his control for a while.

Leaves are splattered in disarray;
their colors appearing like paint,
speckled in exclamation,
and dousing the forest floor
in their colorful explosion.

Here we go, again.
The forest is our anchor.
Coming home,
our eyes are pried open,
away from screens,
away from the formidable overseen.

Crunching and sploshing over leaf filled pools,
we welcome the coming of damp feet.
Aimlessly, we wander deeper than before.
We can always see so much more.

Did I ever tell you that it was you
who brought me the spectrum of light,
the hues and hours away,
dabbling with streaming brooks
and putting ink to pages once blank?

Did I ever thank you,
for these magnificent gifts I might never have explored
if you weren’t here to remind me?

There are so many splendors to be had
for the ones who take the time to look.

Beautiful poem and photographs. As someone who enjoys nature, I totally resonate with the forest being a solid anchor and that it helps put so many things in life into perspective. Hope you’re enjoying the last of the fall colours.
