The whispering echoes
reverberated amongst the wide room
Piano keys softly chimed
accompanied by baritone singing
Outside that room
the tranquil sounds are muffled with laughter and raucous coughing
Soft swishing sounds and a gust of breeze greet you at the doors
and yelling interrupts your calm
Instantly, there’s squirrels chattering, beeping, and honking
There’s wind making branches whine and feet slipping
You’re drifting into autopilot
your thoughts are shifting to drown it out
Distracted, you reach to silence the buzzing in your pocket
squealing tires on frozen pavement jolt you
You want to look up
for a moment there’s red silence
The whispers you remember from earlier
there’s now only screams
You can hear your heart beating
the roughness of your breathing
You can feel the warmth of your spilled blood
and all else feeling cold
The shrieks, just seconds ago loud,
are growing dimmer and fading
You’re holding onto the sound
the precious sound you’ve tried to block out earlier
A blinding light clouds your vision
the sounds are gone
You finally got what you wanted
Stone. Cold. Silence.
