Wistful and open to trying,
smiling once more, continuously striving.

This is bigger than us, brighter than the sun.
The moon watches behind the clouds, wanting the light we reflect.

Keep our light at bay, a bitter compromise.

Smile inside, laugh within your belly.

Keep your eyes open wide.

No one said this “Higher Journey” some of us travel upon was easy. Oh yes it is most challenging some days to keep smiling and for us to keep our light shining. Stay true to yourself and the path you choose. The ups and the downs are all included in the package. I can so relate to what you wrote here. Much love to you!! xo

Ooh this one is interesting, I do love abstract pieces like this! I’ve turned this over in my head a few times. On my first reading, my overall feeling was one of hope. Second reading, I got caught on the last three lines, seeming darker than the first time around. Then a third time, I felt like I’m beginning to grasp that this is about balance, ‘bitter compromise’ between that bubbling spiritual joy and the harshness of a materialistic world… or at least, that’s what I took from it, but I suspect someone else might see something else altogether. And that’s why abstract writing is awesome! 🙂

You absolutely nailed it on the third time around!!! 🙂 It’s about balance. This is one of the hardest things I struggle with. I’ve always been the kind of person that’s all or nothing. I have many projects plus my full time job and my fiance, friends and family haha so I’m really working on finding balance. There are days I rock at this and days I don’t. This poem is about that struggle to keep balance:) This is such a thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it, Tom! I know you probably know this struggle. Every adult does unfortunately, even those of us whom don’t always feel “adult.”
