Lights forming figures in rainy streets, outline the hungry cats and feral people. Hollow eyes and thoughts about green paper add no refuge to their weathered bodies.

Lights forming figures zip around when out of focus, taking on new shapes when our backs are to them.

Mocking our reality, the light is a lonely martyr, brightening up our winter darkened streets and stone walkways to join us but never to stand solid.

Still, it encompasses hope.

I know it hasn’t worked the last couple of times I tried to leave a comment on this… but there so needs to be a comment here. This piece is so evocative…
it captures a mood that pervades everything right now… and it does so beautifully.
I feel these words right down to the little water vole deep in my core, snuffling and shivering where my soul used to be.
These words are hope and light, even in dark places.

Wow thank you so much:) that means so much to me awwww ( fluffy hug being sent ) I know my poetry can be dark. I try to put a twist on things in a positive direction. It all depends on where the words take me. That is one of the facets with writing I love the most, I go places. Sometimes it truly feels like the words are coming to me from someone else. It’s wild. I love when I feel that. 🙂 I once did a story for a creative writing course I took before getting my BA. I lite rally heard the characters arguing back and forth and wrote what they said. It was such an enlightening feeling and everyone loved it. I felt so proud and grateful that my characters led me in the right direction. Hah a
