It’s a simple catastrophe, laughing when you’re too tired to cry.
All the mania, an extra terrestrial invading your mind.

We’re a simple chaotic wonder, a smiling broken China doll set, neatly packaged.

We smile still as our worlds are torn apart.
It’s what is expected of us, afterall.

Smile.

Stay happy.

I’m a single catastrophe, in a crowd of familiar alien cause and effect chains, laughing because we’re too tired for crying.

After all, happy/sad.
I suppose we’re meant to coexist together as both.
It’s what’s expected of us.

We’re expected to have two faces, secrets.

Aren’t we?

*About the poem:

I wrote this based on basic conversations. When typically greeted, you’re asked, “how are you?” You typically respond what’s expected of you, “I’m good.” In our fast paced society, there’s hardly time to stop and talk idly, let alone get deep. We’re just expected to rush along and push our emotions aside and sometimes that’s rough. I’m very fortunate these days to be in a supportive workplace. It took time for me to get comfortable in this sense but was well worth it. My advice to anyone who may feel that they can’t talk to anyone when feeling low is to just do it anyway. It gets easier to talk after doing it a few times and you never know if someone you’re talking with is going through something similar. πŸ™‚ If starting with a family member is easier or a friend, do that. Do not keep things in though. You deserve to be happy and at peace. You guys are all awesome. Keep inspiring! Love, Brittny ^-^

Wow… well, I guess I should be drawing out high-blown words for this… an “exquisite” or a “stunning” or a “heartfelt” or two – but such words would fail what you do. They would fail who you are.

Beautiful feels like such an over-used, over-worked, under-paid word. But it so often feels the right word to use when I come here.

It’s a workaday word, not trying to pretend to be anything other than it is, constantly belittled by the assumptions of those who think they have its meaning all boxed off.
But it carries on anyway, speaking in its raw, human, unassuming way of the miracles and magnificences peeking out through who we are, and who we could be.

It’s your word, cupping the face of lost souls in a place where you too have hid… and saying, in the gentlest and kindest of terms: “It’s ok.”

Because you know there’s a way through, and you say as much, even when it hurts.

    Beautiful.
