This is a poem about Covid 19 written by my mother. She is an amazing writer and needs some encouragement to make her own WordPress. If you guys could write some encouraging words and like this post for her, that would be awesome. Here is her poem, Deaf Ears by my mom, Julie Woss

If yesterday was behind, will tomorrow be ahead?
Is today another day we fight, or is our doom planned before us?

Thickness is in the air, feels harder and harder to breathe.
We can’t escape this cube we’re in.
People are dying so violently.

God forbid, you have a cough,
Or, a runny nose,
Scared to get help,
Covid-19 is everywhere we go.

Damn that virus.
It’s taken so many lives.
On their own, the rest follow them until they erase themselves out of existence.

We must stay strong and avoid the news.
We don’t want updates.
We’ll cover our ears and shut our eyes.

Red used to be my favorite color.
Now, it’s become our warden,
Wearing hot, uncomfortable fortresses on our faces.
Or, we don’t get in.

People who we love so dear, say, “I love you,” from six feet apart.
Hugs are a sin now.

Will this make our love stronger or kill us from within?

Acting like it’s business as usual,
Delivery men leave the product, six feet away.
Afraid to touch, or his job will be lost.

Mail comes with covered hands.
We wait until he leaves, so apprehensive are we, to see not a car on the street.

You see my friends laughter and memories are made.
They will be for all to see.
This dread will be gone.
No more Covid 19.

Weaves together so many of the fears – whether real, imagined or manufactured – that are starting to define not just this situation but our sense of who we are…
stealing us from within. This piece captures that so well.

There’s something else we need to find… to nurture… before we are through this – or else the world afterwards might not be worth saving. This unspoken fear… this dread, whose presence this virus has somehow laid bare, is so well caught here.
