Listening to Willow sing
angelic voice
calling out, “Marceline.”

I’m reminded of a show
I enjoyed not too long ago

You’re across dimensions it seems
But I ponder
Can you join me?
I know you’d enjoy it, too.
I want your company

My billow pities me
as she watches as pain slaps me around
Soft sleeves brush
the rain from my cheeks

She sits alone with me
For a long time
I don’t ramble or rhyme

I can’t scheme or demean
a love so innocent, so genuine

Undeserving, never alone
with this precious presence

Sit with us for a time
Let the sand slip between your fingers
We’re never alone
despite the absence of me and of you
on our plains

Soft sleeves pull us close
Willow sings and I’m reminded why I’m writing
but you’re here

Maybe you don’t sense me coming.
Maybe you don’t feel the impending heat
Nevertheless, it’s coming
burning through the stone walls
and power they strut about

Soft sleeves pull us close
and we’re engaged in our favorite cartoons
My sweet billow lulling us to sleep

Willow keeps singing and we’re drifting back in time
back in space

This is such a lovely and emotional poem. I don’t know if it’s because of all this talk about our childhoods recently, but this poem brings me back to my younger self. Thanks for sharing. Linda
