Leaves crunch delicately under my foam sandals.
The foam rises slowly as dough
as I release my feet.

While escaping their enclosure, my toes dance on a stream’s edge.
With a slight splash, they’re cooling, swimming in blue and purple, the phantom colors chasing my vision.

As my phone rings,
I despair thinking of a shadow hovering,
another soul to spare me their time,
a disruption, breaking my peace.

I only wanted a short escape,
a moment to catch my breath.
I wanted to create simple sized puddles,
with rapid and refreshing flowing rivulets of streams.
I wanted to whistle in wistful winds,
join in the birds bidding, their song,
their brazen bravado.

I yearned for an exploration
without inference.
I searched for novelty
amid the watchful trees,
the leaf laden path

I needed to leave,
couldn’t bear the humility
of being lost in your life again.

Dark, but beautiful. You really do have a lovely way with words.

I know what you mean, especially after the past two years of dealing with the pandemic and all the restrictions. It’s always nice to have something to look forward to though. When is your first trip?

My first trip is the end of July weekend. I can’t wait! I’m mentally prepping myself for having two weeks off of work. It’s going to be a nice break but I will miss the kids hah πŸ™‚
