You reminded me of an owl.
Your yellow tinted glasses
always accenting your round eyes.
You’d keep to yourself
but you were never cold.
You stood strong,
sturdy like iron.
If I’d have known,
I wouldn’t have conceived it.
You reminded me of an owl.
You gave advice beyond your time,
never faltering when questions poured like rain.
I swore I could read volumes of ancient texts,
looking into your solemn eyes.
Unlike so many,
you were not boastful or reprimanding.
You were open and unafraid.
You held your weathered
arms high, kept your chin raised.
You stayed my hero even when shame
lashed at your name.
I pray you comprehend,
I haven’t forgotten your time, you lent.
Or, that I’m unequivocally grateful
to have known a soul so kind.

Thank you ! My mom always refers to my uncle Bill as an owl and I always thought of him as one as a kid. He had such wise and compassionate eyes. I always admired him. He was a big part of the reason I started to write and blog. Thank you, Linda for your kind and thoughtful comment π

Thank you so much!!! My uncle means a lot to me, even though he passed on. I know he’s being rewarded. He was a great mind and served as a piece of solace for many, myself included. The Edgar Allen Poe storybook he gifted me from his very own collection still remains one of my most precious treasures. I want to honor his memory . Thank you, Jaya β€οΈπ€π
