White and whole, beaming rays
of upscale pinks, orange and blue
a spectral delight
and bolts of color splay out before us.

Surely, nothing is as astonishing as a sunset,
we watch and time trickles beside us

Waving our farewells,
we set aside our dismays,
awaiting the rise of a fuller moon

It’s too soon for fireflies,
for crickets and for frogs.
But Robins and Chimney Swifts
keep us hopeful and in good company

A spectral awe,
a magnificent display of white light
with hints of orange,
breaks our daze.

I love this poem. It reminds me of those late summer days when the sun is just setting. It’s the perfect time to be sitting by a campfire!

Yes!!! I love campfires so much and sunsets in the summer . Summer nights are some of my most enjoyed nights . They have such sensory bliss with the sounds of frogs and crickets and katydids and the feel of heat subsiding for the night. The smell of the fire and the gentle crackling emerging from the burning wood. I am enjoying the warmer weather and memories to come 😁😊 thank you, Linda ! Your comment made me even more excited 😊 I hope you and yours are enjoying the warmer weather and spring 🌼🌼
