Crystals of ice
are dancing through the sun’s shimmering rays,
casting rainbows across the sky.
The sky is softening,
clouds fattening
to gain the gusto to,
blow more crystal bounty our way.
My window is gaining weight
as I am watching like a cat,
only, docile and patient.
Crystals of ice,
stunning in their ground blanketing;
they bring me back
to train whistles and snowy roads,
to staying home and sleighing in
a rhythmic row.

I’m nine, again,
staying home and getting ready to spend my day, playing the hours away.
Only, it’s in my mind,
perhaps, just for today.
