My chimes are rhythmic and tolling like bells,
soft and sailing towards sun.

There’s someone mowing the lawn
and I could smell cigarette smoke,
coming from next door.
Brie is coming down the stone steps,
walking her excitable dog, Beatrice,

waving to me.
It takes me to a higher place
when I’m stuck sitting in the sadness
without a name.

The smoke scent and the chimes singing
reminds me of another home,
an older one, but still relevant.
It’s amazing how two places
can feel like home.

I’m grateful to
never be entirely alone.
The chimes are singing their notes.
Unabashedly, the lawnmower is chopping the air waves, along with the pleading grass.
Smoke is traveling over and under
our banisters and our chairs
and I’m at peace,
with us talking and experiencing
the treat in front porch engaging.

We’re not far apart,
just one door away,
hearing you exist is just enough, some days.
The days when I am lonely,
even just a little ounce,
your voices brighten my day.

I notice, I’m happier when
I linger longer,
talk a bit.
I never regret it when I do.

The art of being alone,
can look like listening to your radio,
feeling absent but serene in being seen.
Front porch exchanges are never to go unnoticed, and never to be taken for granted. Being with such gentle souls, is far more blissful than retreating to sealed windows and locked doors

I love the contrast between the colour and the black and white.

Thank you ! I really took my time with this piece.
I’m grateful with how it came out. It took forever which usually they don’t . It felt good to really take my time and write about something different. Oddly enough, it’s about my neighbors and how much I enjoy their company and closeness. I’m sitting on my porch and all is silent and they come out and we talk and it’s just so refreshing living next to them. 🙂

It’s nice that you have neighbours that inspire you so. Long may it continue!

Lovely piece. Sounds like you have nice neighbours. Wind chimes always remind me of my mother-in-law. She has some outside her front door and my little one loves touching them and hearing their music.

Aw that’s so cute !! Little M loving the chimes. That’s precious 💕💕. Thank you ! I’m glad you enjoyed it. This one actually took me hours to work on in total , line 2 hours. My mom has a bunch of them, too. My neighbors are honestly God sends. T spoke to me about his work troubles and we shared a commonality and it really made me feel better about myself and my situation. I found a job! I am working at the deli i used to around 15 years ago. They are always saying hi and we’ll get talk a little and it’s just nice hearing their voices and having that extra company in spouts when matt is working especially. Are you enjoying your summer so far ?

Congrats on the new job! Funny how it’s at a deli you used to go to when you were younger. It’s amazing how the universe works sometimes.

I’m enjoying the summer so far despite the heat and humidity. I just can’t believe how quickly the time goes though. Our little one will be starting day care in September so I’m trying to enjoy as much time with her as I can.

It is something for sure. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. It’s been hot here too so I’m happy I’m working to be out of it lol 😄😄 I have today off so I’ll get to spend with my family which is nice 🙂. Aw little M going to daycare aw. She’s growing so fast. I don’t blame you wanting to get all your M time in . Adulting is a pain when it comes to time

Oh I know! Where does the time go? That’s awesome that you had the day off. I guess it’s Independence Day for you. And it falls on a Friday so that means an extra long weekend. Enjoy the festivities!
