Reaching out,
the branches are shifting,
a weight lifting.

Summertime is here.
The leaves, crunchy and plentiful, combine with looseleaf bird feathers
wind blown and sailing,
across our pool’s surface.

The water is brimming with life
as the warm air becomes hot.
Once more, life is transformed,
and memories flood my senses

Float with me and remember,
twenty years ago,
there weren’t worries like there are today.
There were races,
playing games while listening to the birds
and their melodious summer songs

The water is warming
and we’re jamming to a placid wave,
traveling to places only available
when the sun shines and splashes freely.

It’s hotter than the bowels of hell.
Still, there’s something tender,
waiting in the hands of summer.
There are not many moments like these,
might as well live like we’re in heaven.

I’m not a fan of the summer, but I do enjoy being able to swim in the pool. It’s one of the best ways to stay cool. And I find being in and near the water so calming. It brings back wonderful memories from my childhood too as we grew up with a pool in our backyard and would often spend our summers in the water. So this piece really resonated with me!

Aw I’m so glad you felt a connection with this one. I too have great memories with swimming and it brings my family together even more in the summer . We play volleyball and other things and have cookouts. That’s really the only things the heat is good for haha. I love any body of water . It really does ground you, oddly enough water grounds us haha. I’m grateful you have a pool and grateful my parents do, too. Ever have fires like a fire pit? I love doing that as well on summer nights

Sounds fun and a great way to spend time together. I can relate about being by the water. I find it so peaceful and soothing. We don’t have a fire pit in our backyard but actually have been talking about how nice that would be.

Yes!! Absolutely is and you should get one. There’s nothing like a fire pit with s’mores or roasted marshmallows and campfire stories . We have some family traditions that we don’t let go of and I’m grateful for them. I want to pass them onto our kids when/if we have them
