Frost is near,
cool on our cars and blades of grass.
I remember last December,
As snow shook hands
with bare trees
and frozen sidewalks.
But, only in October
I can feel the coming transformation.
The leaves become covered in the
frozen glory of the morning,
holding onto their last bit of green,
to blaIng shades or red, yellow
with some orange in between.
Only in October,
I could drink it all in,
swallow that bit of cold,
that gentle dusting from your middle season,
stuck between hot and bitter cold.
I remember last December.
I remember the warm houses,
the frosty windows and snowy branches.
At least in October,
there’s time to compress,
a little bit of reprieve
before Winter’s grip tightens
on our wrists, dousing our days with ice and snow.
In October,
the changss coming so quickly.
In October,
I want to remain
at least for a little while
