Smiling but frozen

laughing about this absurdity
unstuck and unhitibited
not broken
but livid at the thought
that this will go away.

Afraid it’ll end,
I’m drowning in coffee.
Caffeine has no end,
when you’re a wave that has brought me
to never ending energy.

Already wired,
fantasizing, not tired
but afraid it’ll end
that I’ll wake up
from sleeping
as someone other than me

Don’t stop this wild energy,
that’s on the brink
of brilliance or incomplete.

Sometimes people start to speak what they believe is a genuine portrait, to pull away the mask… and they end up simply making another mask, not realizing that what they were looking at was my real face, wishing masks came with a translator.

That’s a brilliant response and true. Masks are the hardest things to lose, especially living in the world that proves to try to change you. Masking is tough. It really makes it hard to know yourself. I masked for years and had a mental breakdown. Writing about this stuff is so cathartic. Poetry is definitely a powerful part of my healing journey and self-discovery. Thank you for your thoughtful response. It made my day

Lots of different emotions and thoughts from this piece. A smile can give the impression that all is right, when it can be further from the truth. But it helps keep unwanted questions and attention away. But we all most come to terms with what’s happening inside and figure out whether we want to keep projecting a different face to the outside world.

Exactly ! You Aced it ! I always enjoy your comments. I think you’re right. The tricky part is sometimes knowing how you feel about yourself and the world around you. Self-discovery definitely aids in moving the process along. The human mind is a wild thing
