I’m strung up high,
the rope tightening as I dangle.
I have a whet blade,
slick with blood and sweat
from the palm of my hand.
I want to let go
but holding on is all I’m used to.
I make myself believe you’re the omnipotent
as my vision is hazy,
my thoughts cloudy
as I start to fade.
I make myself believe you’re holding the rope.
If I’m being honest,
I am aware that it’s not true.
This rope is becoming too tight,
cutting too deeply
and I need to breathe again.
I have to cut this rope,
no matter where I land.
